Introduction to Mappings

  1. Definition of Mappings:
    • Mappings represent the logical and physical organization of data sources, targets, and transformations.
    • They manage how data flows from a source to a target system, involving various transformation operations along the way.
  2. Mapping Editor:
    • Mappings are created and managed using the Mapping Editor.
    • The Mapping Editor is a new feature introduced in ODI 12c (Oracle Data Integrator).
  3. Opening Mappings:
    • The Mapping Editor automatically opens when you open an existing mapping in ODI 12c.
  4. Organization of Mappings:
    • Mappings are organized into folders.
    • These folders are grouped under individual projects within the Projects section in the Designer Navigator.
  5. Designer Navigator:
    • The Designer Navigator is where all the projects, and their associated mappings, are stored and managed.
