1. What is Physical Mapping Design?

• Physical Mapping Design refers to the process of defining how data is physically transferred between sources and targets in your integration flow. It specifies the physical properties of the data movement, such as locations of staging areas and data transformation processes.

2. How do I display the Physical Mapping Design?

• To display the physical mapping design, click the background or select the white tab labeled Physical Mapping Design. This will show you the properties and configuration for your current physical mapping.

3. What is the default staging location?

• By default, the staging location is colocated on the target, meaning the staging area is placed on the same host as the target system.

4. Can I change the staging location?

• Yes, you can explicitly select a different staging location if you want ODI to automatically move the staging area to a different host.

5. How do I define additional physical mapping designs?

• To define additional physical mapping designs, click the small tab at the bottom of the physical diagram, next to the current physical mapping design tab. This will create a new physical mapping design automatically based on the logical design.

6. What happens when I create a new physical mapping design?

• When you create a new physical mapping design, it will be automatically populated based on the logical design of the current mapping, ensuring the physical setup matches the logical configuration.

7. Can I have multiple physical mapping designs in a single project?

• Yes, you can have multiple physical mapping designs in a single project. You can switch between them by clicking the corresponding tabs at the bottom of the physical diagram.

8. Why would I need to change the default staging location?

• Changing the staging location might be necessary if you want to optimize performance, manage resources more effectively, or if your infrastructure requires the staging area to be on a different server or host.

9. Can I modify the physical mapping design after it’s created?

• Yes, you can modify the physical mapping design at any time. Adjustments to the staging location or other properties can be made through the properties pane of the design.

10. How do I ensure the physical mapping is correctly set up?

• Ensure that the staging locations, target mappings, and logical designs align properly. Regularly review the physical mapping properties and test the integration flows to confirm they work as expected.
